Can You Really do That?! (Limitations of Private Investigators)

Updated: Sep 14, 2020

Many times we are asked by people if we can install GPS tracking devices on vehicles to catch a cheating spouse. That’s not necessarily a cut and dried answer. If the person asking us is the rightful owner of the vehicle in question, then yes, we certainly can and will. But, if they’re not the registered owner of the vehicle, then legally we cannot and will not. It’s in situations like this that we recommend one of our other services.

Thunder Bay Private Investigators can conduct surveillance but cannot stalk people.

There are many other limitations to services we can legally provide as private investigators. We can obtain phone records or install a wiretap, but only with the account-holder’s authorization or with a warrant. We can’t trespass onto private property or break into buildings to gather information, but we can access buildings or be on private property if we have the owner’s consent or a warrant. At no time can a private investigator drive recklessly or break the rules of the road in order to maintain contact with a Subject. These are just a few of the many things that we cannot legally do as per our licensing rules and regulations set out by the PSISA (Private Security and Investigative Services Act).

Thunder Bay Private Investigator needs to follow the rules and regulations. They can catch a cheating spouse but it needs to be done legally.

Trying to get in touch with an old high school friend? Looking for your biological birth parents? How about even trying to find someone who owes you money and has seemingly vanished? Hiring a private investigation agency just might be one of the easier and more efficient ways to do any of these tasks. Trying to serve someone legal paperwork and they’re being evasive about it? Another task that can be handled by a private investigator efficiently. Hiring a new employee and are concerned about any questionable activities in their past? A private investigator has a wealth of resources available to them beyond just a Google search. There’s a lot of information on the internet that isn’t readily available if you don’t know where to find it. The Deep web is anything on the internet that isn’t accessible or catalogued by search engines due to it being blocked from being visible to web crawlers.

If you think that the services of a private investigator might be of any assistance to you, please feel free to contact us for a free quote and to discuss your matters. A conversation with us is strictly confidential and 100% secure.
